Lifting weights is one of the best kept secrets to female fat loss.
More and more women are getting into weight training which is great to see but there are still many myths that float around such as 'lifting weights will make a women bulky' or there is a fear around it which keeps many women stuck to cardio machines.
Lifting weights as a woman is one of the best things you can do to become stronger, lose body fat, tone and shape your body without becoming bulky, reduce the risk of injuries, aches and pains.
When it comes to fat loss the more muscle you have the higher your resting metabolism, which means you burn more calories throughout the day.
You won't become bulky because women have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy, such as testosterone. Throwing some weights into your routine will instead help build a lean and toned physique.
Lifting weights will also build stronger connective tissue and joint stability which helps to prevent injuries.
For example squatting can help with sore knees that could be caused through running and having weak knee joints.
And if you have lower back pain strengthening your glutes through weight training can help alleviate this.
